IMAGE AND LIKENESS
77 SELF-PORTRAITS FROM THE COLLECTION OF NIKOLAI NEDELCHEV
14.08.2015 -04.10.2015
NATIONAL GALLERY OF BULGARIA
The exhibition includes 77 self-portraits by contemporary Bulgarian artists, owned by collector and patron Nikolai Nedelchev.
The exposition is the result of a year-long work with artists invited by the collector and his consultant Nadia Timova to present a concept of artistic re-creation of their own image.
The collector’s wish is to own works by Bulgarian artists that embody the most comprehensive image of contemporary Bulgarian art – works that are able to give an insight into the self- assessment and creativity of their authors. The collection was started as an experimental project by Nikolai Nedelchev himself, following the purchase of several self-portraits by prominent Bulgarian artists. Self-portraiture became the focus of his interest and collecting passion because of the frankness, psychological depth and the possibility of creative reincarnation of the artists. For the exhibition, 77 established, as well as quite young artists have been selected, who are active in the field of painting, sculpture and new media, including Svetlin Rusev, Emil Popov, Vejdi Rashidov, Sasho Stoitsov, Snezhana Simeonova, Stanislav Pamukchiev, Grady Assa, Alla Georgieva, Dimitar Yaranov, Iva Yaranova, Ivan Kyuranov, Ivan Kostolov, Kiril Cholakov, Lyuben Petrov, Deyan Yanev, Zoran Georgiev, Kalia Kalacheva, Nora Ampova and many others
